Raspberry Pi Tutorials

Happy Pi Day! After the popularity of our 20 awesome projects for Raspberry Pi slideshow, we felt the best way to celebrate the geekiest day of the year was to bring you another round of inspiration for the microcomputer. This time we rounded up the best YouTube tutorials out there, and there were quite a few to choose from.
The Raspberry Pi community is strong and a search for Raspberry Pi on YouTube brings up almost 16,000 results, but below are the best we came across, from what to do when you first unpack your device to fun projects like setting it up as an internet radio device.
1. Unbox and setup
This video takes you through the very first steps after your Raspberry Pi arrives at your door, including things like power supply connection, SD card setup and first boot.
2. Using Raspberry Pi for web hosting
This tutorial shows you step by step directions for setting up your Raspberry Pi to act as a web host for personal web pages, resumes and the like.
3. Build a retro-style computer
If you want to take on a more intense computer build based on Raspberry Pi, this is a cool one to take on.
4. Make a $35 media center
One of the most common Raspberry Pi projects is using it as a devoted media center. This video shows you one way to go about it.
5. Ultrasonic sensor
This video comes from YouTube user Raspberry Pi who uploads many tutorials for the device. This one would be a cool beginner level project that also lets you get your hands dirty. Called Raspberry Pi Spy, this project lets you measure how far away something is calculating the time interval between sending a high frequency signal and receiving the echo.
6. Internet radio
This video is the longest of the bunch, but it gives detailed directions for setting up your Raspberry Pi as an internet radio device.
7. WiFi Wireless Internet
This is an especially useful tutorial. Learn how to set up wireless internet on the Raspberry Pi.

Raspberry Pi No-IP Client

Dynamic IP adres? No problem!

Slideshow HELL!

First of all........ ARRGGGHHHHHHHHH

fbi the tool to do a slideshow is doing me head in as it does not work so now using something else.

pqiv

due to issues with raspbian there is a lovely fix to get this working

To build the app on a raspberry pi you need the following:
(if you do no have debian wheezy, things may look different)

# remove the installed version
sudo apt-get remove pqiv

# install the required packages to get the source from git and compile it
sudo apt-get install git libgtk2.0-dev

# as user pi in the user home directory (/home/pi), this will create a sub directory 'pqiv'
git clone https://github.com/phillipberndt/pqiv.git -b 0.12

# configure will validate all preconditions and create a platform specific make file
cd pqiv
./configure

# now it's time to make the fix in the source code
replace "gchar option;" by "gint option";
in the variables declaration of the main() function in pqiv.c.

# make and install the app
sudo make all install

# that's it, you have a fixed version of pqiv

Wepbuster on PI

I've been playing with PWNPI and one of my fav wep cracking scripts is wepbuster but when you try to install it there are issues.

found a quick and easy way to install all the bits and bobs it requires:

apt-get install libterm-readkey-perl libnet-scp-expect-perl libfile-policy-perl libnumber-range-perl libalgorithm-permute-perl libparallel-forkmanager-perl

Latest Version of Wepbuster:

export USER='root'
eval cd ~$USER
# Check the state of the command - this'll either be start or stop
case "$1" in
  start)
    # Start the wifi cracker
    su $USER -c '/root/wifite.py -wep -all -mac '
echo "Starting wepcrack for $USER "
    ;;
  stop)
    # if it's stop, then just kill the process
    pkill wifite.py

ZD1211RW

Right playing around with pwnpi a lovely little security distro for the raspberry pi

had issues with a Zydas 1211 adaptor (belkin).

airmon-ng start wlan0

Found 2 processes that could cause trouble.
If airodump-ng, aireplay-ng or airtun-ng stops working after
a short period of time, you may want to kill (some of) them!

PID Name
885 dhclient3
1527 dhclient3
Process with PID 1527 (dhclient3) is running on interface wlan0

Interface Chipset Driver

wlan0 Zydas zd1211rw - [phy0]SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory

                                (monitor mode enabled on mon0)

Found a lovely fix

wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/zd1211/zd1211-firmware/1.4/zd1211-firmware-1.4.tar.bz2
tar xvjf zd1211-firmware-1.4.tar.bz2
mv zd1211-firmware zd1211
mv zd1211 /lib/firmware

and now you can do packet injection on the pi.
